Telling Rocky
November 13, 2010

This story is hilarious! It's funny how you expect a different reaction and they end up reacting in a way that only they would.

I'd already waited 5 days to tell him so I couldn't wait any longer. He'd just gotten home from a 12-hr nightshift. I was up getting ready to go to our Primary Program rehearsal.

I put this bear in the nightstand right next to phone, figuring he'd want to check his phone before going to sleep. I was wrong. I was in the bathroom getting ready; waiting for him to say something or for a reaction of some sort. Instead I peeked out of the bathroom after a minute, he was laying on the bed. He told me to come sit by him for a minute. I asked him if he'd seen his present by his phone. He said no. I told him to get it. He grabbed the bear and read what it said. He was like, "Number one Dad... who's going to be?" I said, "You're going to be." He said, "Really?!" Then he raised his hand and said, "High Five!" OH MY! Not what I was going for! I said, "Really, a high five?"

He apologized for it later! It was really funny!

Telling the Families

We decided to wait until we were mostly done with the first trimester before telling our families. I really debated telling them at Thanksgiving partly because I'd have the opportunity to tell my grandparents in Montana in person. We decided that was too soon to tell them because I would've only been 7 weeks along. So we waited until Christmas!

We bought two pairs of red baby socks; one set for each Mom.

With Rocky's family: suspicions were high! :) It'd been hard to keep the baby (and Rocky's new job) a secret! I figured that Krin knew something was up! Anyways, we decided to wait until the very end to give Cathie the gift. However, a few minutes earlier, Rocky and I had opened a gift from each other. He'd gotten me a new video camera bag and his brother asked if it was a diaper bag and if we were trying to make an announcement! Surprise almost blown! We said no, it's a camera bag for the new video camera we got.

When Cathie opened the socks, she said, "So this is the announcement." Then Rocky announced that he got the job!

With my family: as soon as we arrived I said I wanted to open presents now! I called Dad and told him to come on so we could open the presents! My Mom was like ok... When we got everyone together, we started with Varcy and worked our way up. It was kind of tough when we got to Mom and Dad because I gave Dad his gift first. Mom was confused. After Mom opened her official Christmas present (a duffel bag), I threw her the other gift and told her it went with her bag (not really but the bag was red).

She opened it. April was sitting next to her and she started screaming. My Mom said, "Really?!" Amber asked, "Who are those going to fit?" :) Oh my, she's funny! Then Rocky said, "And I got the job in California." I know, we were mean; his idea though to announce both things. Next thing, April's crying, then Mom started crying. :( Then the hugs!

My Dad was running around saying, "I'm going to be a Grandpa!" :) It was the best!

I'm so very thankful for this wonderful opportunity to become a mom and to build our family. I know there are so many great people out there that want kids and either aren't able to have them or struggle for some time to get them. We are so very blessed in the fact that it happened quickly (Heavenly Father probably knew I'd start to freak out if it hadn't) and the pregnancy has been just fine. The fact that I barely had a hint of morning sickness has been great! Just got to eat and I'm fine. :) We've also been blessed in the fact that nothing serious happened to any of us during the accident.

All-in-all, VERY BLESSED!!!

The Good

Rocky's 25th Birthday

Well, I felt like I didn't prepare very well for Rocky's birthday when we celebrated it with his family! I didn't do a good job for his Mom's birthday either (sorry Cathie)! Things were kind of hectic and hard to figure out with us being in limbo for a month; especially with Rocky being mostly in Utah & Minnesota and me going between Malad, my parents house, my Grandma's house, and Utah. I've lost a lot of things going here and there during the month of February.

Anyways, I felt like I needed to do something because it was a BIG birthday! I mean Rocky's now a quarter of a century old! :) Plus I wasn't able to take any pictures of the banana cake his mom made so I had no pictures to remember the event and I couldn't handle it!

So I ordered a quarter sheet cake for him. The plan was to surprise him with it. If anyone knows me, it's very hard for me to keep a secret! Well, everything had been a secret until we got in the car accident (The Bad and The Ugly post). After we got done at the hospital and back to Morgan & Brock's house, I ended up telling Rocky I'd ordered a cake for him and we were going to celebrate his birthday that night at my parents house before having to leave the next morning for Cali. He said, "Thanks for trying to surprise me."

Anyways, this isn't supposed to get depressing! So his cake was white with raspberry filling (lol my favorite).

This was a card/booklet I made for Rocky. My mom helped me by cutting out the letters because my attempt was beyond SAD! It's a good thing I have a crafty/artistic mom because I fail miserably in that area! I'll add that my dad helped me by suggesting I use ribbon instead of trying to find the metal rings at the craft store. He even helped me pick out the ribbon! :) In the booklet I did "25 Things I Love About You." It was fun for me to do! Of course, I'm a little more on the sentimental side than Rocky but I think he still liked it. I also got him a new pair of shorts for the warmer weather.

I can't believe he's 25 already (can't believe I'm almost 24)! He was 22 when we got married so it's just so crazy to think that we've almost been married 3 years! Time sure has flown and it's been the best (minus the car thing)! I love him so much and am so thankful that he's with me! He really is the best for me!

This is our 3 1/2 generations picture(s)! LOL! I look so scroungy but Grandma is almost smiling (she usually doesn't, she's not a fan of pictures).

My Grandma let me stay with her pretty much the whole month of February! I'm really glad for the extra time I got to spend with her and listen to her stories! She's hilarious! I'm also thankful that she's still around and doing so well!! I never knew my great-grandparents on that side and I don't remember the ones on my Mom's side because I was too little. I'm thankful for her and so glad that she'll be here to meet our little one!

The Bad & The Ugly

Well, I have yet another reason to hate Pocatello! The day before we were supposed to leave to head out to Cali we got in an accident like ten minutes into the drive, on a Friday around 5:00 p.m. It was snowing and icy; we were going over a bridge/overpass when a truck pulling snowmobiles in a trailer pulled out in front of us. When the brakes were applied, there was no traction and we slid into the trailer. The airbags went off and it put spun us around so that we were just off the road facing the wrong way. There were four other wrecks within a couple miles of us and since there weren't any injuries on our part, we were last on the list. Luckily a nice couple from Shelley pulled over and let me sit in their car while Rocky tried to take care of things. It was snowing so much and the wind was blowing. It was just awful. The cop gave the other guy a ticket; it was his fault and we thought everything would be fine. Not so much...

Also, that day, we'd just found out that we were having a baby girl and had to go to the hospital to make sure was ok. I don't think the airbag hit me/my stomach because Rocky put his arm out and held me back. The only noticeable physical thing that happened is I got a bruise on my left shin. I tried to take a picture of it but the picture is pretty dark and it's hard to see. I still have the bruise, almost 3 weeks later.

Since it was the weekend, it was hard to get in contact with the insurance and we needed a rental car and get out to Cali because we were scheduled to move into our new place Monday and Rocky to start at his job Tuesday. We didn't get a rental until late Saturday. Since it was going out-of-state, it was a lot more money & we had 24 hours to get a different rental car; otherwise we were going to be charged for another day. We had to go to the airport to find the open car rental since it was Sunday; the first car rental we stopped at closed at noon and it was around 12:30 when we pulled in! Beyond frustrating! The only good part out of the whole rental thing has been that we got a free upgrade to a Chrysler 300. We got to drive it for almost a week before we came in and got a cheaper car. It was fun to be in this super nice car.

Well, to fast forward a little bit, they decided to total the car because it was $700 over the amount they'd cover. If the airbags wouldn't have went off, it would've been fixed no problem. It's too late now, it's probably a crushed box of metal now :'(. We hadn't even had it 6 months. It's very disappointing because I've wanted the car for 2 years. We were finally able to upgrade and get it. We'd bought it in October. We've had to try to take care of things from Cali and it's been frustrating! We're lucky our family members were helping out a LOT otherwise things would've been more stressful. Things pretty much had to be taken care of as soon as possible, we had to settle because we couldn't wait for the other insurance company to cooperate. The guy was planning on fighting the ticket anyway and it's probably going to end up being a 50/50 on who was at fault; so a "I take care of mine, you take care of yours" type of thing.

As for now, we're still in a rental car, now a Chevy Cobalt, and we're trying to figure out how to get my little grey car out here. I am looking forward to this ordeal being over with; that's pretty much all I can say. Insurance is so infuriating!!! It's like we can't get any support from that side of it! It's been hard! Anyways, it's time to move on from it! Once again though, I hate Pocatello!!

Valentine's Day Recap

We celebrated Valentine's Day on the 12th because Rocky was headed for training in Minnesota on the 14th. He surprised me and took me to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in Park City! The funny part was on the way there when we were going through SLC, I was thinking that maybe we were going to Ruth's Chris there. After we passed SL, I was back to not knowing where we were going.

The restaurant was attached to a nice hotel. They had a valet take our car, which was a first time for me personally. The dining area we were in had a cabin-feel to it with huge ceiling-to-floor windows to see the snow and trees. The ceiling had huge wood beams and there was a fireplace. It was very nice.

The food was amazing! I had the petite filet which was plenty for me! It was so very good! :) Didn't even need ketchup! Rocky got a meal deal that came with an appetizer, main course, and dessert. I can't remember what he got. Our waiter brought me out a free dessert because we told him we were also celebrating Rocky's birthday as well as Valentine's Day. The dessert was cheesecake and it was really good as well.

It was fun to go on a mini-retreat with Rocky. Plus it was one of our last trips in our new-to-us SUV (another post).

The night before, we were also invited to a couples' dinner at Court & Krin's house. Each couple ordered what they wanted from Olive Garden. It was well-put together and nice to hang out with them and the other couples there. Rocky got me a beautiful bright bouquet of flowers! Of course, I was too scatterbrained to take a picture of them!

All-in-all, our Valentine's Day celebrations were great and I'm so thankful I have a wonderful husband who goes through the extra effort to try to surprise me and reminds me that it's ok to treat ourselves once in a while!
